Australia’s telephone based National Emergency Warning System, “Emergency Alert”

Australia has successfully implemented a telephone based community warning system that enables its emergency services in any life-threatening situation to send warning messages by fixed line and mobile telephones to the public in the affected area. The system is the only one in the world that is fully inclusive. Everyone with access to a telephone in Australia, whether at home, travelling or an international visitor roaming on Australia’s mobile phone networks has the capability as standard to receive a location based warning.
